Summer fun

Here kitty, kitty!

One day a couple of weeks ago, we looked across the front garden and saw this.

I bet we have had some thirsty, dirty birds around here.

Jackson seems to think this is a great way to beat the heat.

It was very hot on this particular day,
so he can't be blamed for finding the coolest place in the garden.

Anyway,
I do have three other bird baths.

So I believe the birds will survive.

This past week my sisters came to my house for a sister's getaway.
We decided to go camping and stay up Fishcreek at my tiny
shack (or cabin) in the woods.
Dale took our camper and set it up next to it and I arranged a little
'livingroom' outside between the two of them.

The drop cloths I bought at Home Depot were great to make ourselves a
place to walk and keep a little cleaner.

We had a table on the deck to play cards on and eat at.

Plenty of magazines to leaf through when and if we got bored, which we never did.
The three of us have such a great time when we get together.

It was great to just lay back and enjoy our time together.

The camper made it very convenient to make our meals and take our potty breaks.

My sisters took the beds in the camper and I took the only bed in the cabin.

Here is the quilt that I mentioned in my last post that my friend made the top from
 the fabrics in my stash.

It turned out beautifully and I love it!
I think I just may be hooked on quilt making now.

I sewed up some simple slip covers for the benches around the table and had many throws
close by for the cool nights and cold mornings.

Have you ever wondered who designs the interiors of campers?

Do they have to be so -  so  -
 ugly?

Took a few pretty dishes for our meals.

I had recovered the window treatments with muslin.

I used a rubber stamp for the lettering on the muslin.

Clipped some things to the pleats to make it personal.

A little lacking in creativity...but homey.

One of my favorite family snapshots taken on Thanksgiving one year.

Oh the styles of the eighties...makes me laugh!
I'm on the far left with the way over-sized long white sweater and leggings.
Well at least I was comfortable!!!

That's it for the camper.

In the cabin,
not much has changed since I showed pictures of it here last year.

In the evening this is where we spent most of our time.
The bugs couldn't get at us in here.

I love this place!!!

It is such a cozy little space.
Only 12' X 16'.
About the size of most bedrooms and crammed with 'stuff'.

We didn't use the TV, but I like to have it up here for me when I spend the night once in awhile.

I don't get TV reception here and use it only to play DVD's.

We had a family camping trip here in July, and it was so fun to look in the windows and see all of the grandchildren crammed in here watching Finding Neverland just before bed.

My sister's and I have decided we have to do this more than just once a year, that's for sure.

In late July we had family for the weekend and Trigger got a work-out.
I thought I would share some of the photos I took.

The first day the children rode him here in the yard.

This is Ellis, my six year old grandson having his turn.

Look at his darling ears under his hat.
So funny!

 Maddie waiting for her turn.

My little granddaughter Lorin leading Maddie on the pony.

The littlest one, Ella taking her turn in her diaper.

Just call her Lady Godiva.

This was taken the next day while we were camping up Fishcreek.
This is what she looks like riding the pony WITH clothes on. Her sister Briana  leading her.

Maddie leading one of the Matthews.

Brooke having her turn.

Ellis back in the saddle again.

 Best of friends.

Ellis taking the other Matthew (his brother) for a ride.

Allena on Molly.
Some of our grandchildren are a little old to be riding a pony,
so Molly is a perfect ride.

I think Trigger will be so glad to have this weekend behind him.

Back home.
 Jeans washed.
Kids bathed.

And Trigger back in the pasture happily munching away.

This is what I have been doing these past weeks.
and
This IS why I love Summer!

June ~ everything is absolutely glorious! I can see that you are enjoying your summer as much as I am. I hate being inside during the summer and I am hanging onto each day as much as possible for we BOTH know what the next few months are going to bring us...that dreaded COLD weather! Let's enjoy fall while we can!

Dear June,
What a lovely family post...you must be so proud of your beautiful grandchildren and they must give you so much pleasure ....and, how lovely to get away and spend some quality time with your sisters. You made it all look so lovely.....a real home away from home. Your cabin is gorgeous and a real reflection of your home. The quilt is beautiful....I remember when we first visited the States and seeing antique shops with quilts for sale, hung on a line and blowing in the breeze. I don't think that anyone makes quilts as good as the Americans, be they old or new. Have you seen 'How To Make An American Quilt'? It's one of my favourite films.
....and, your beautiful white cat Jackson has certainly got his head screwed on the right way !! He knows exactly the right place to keep cool !! You really had to have a white cat June....we used to have three cats, one ginger, one a peachy colour and one grey and everyone used to say that they matched our house as we have stripped pine doors, pine floorboards !!
Thanks so much for this lovely post and an insight into your life. Much love. XXXX

HOW do I battle my hubby who is leaning towards deer heads, and ME who loves lace and crystals.

I saw a photo in your trailor, on the wall.....
I HAVE THE EXACT SAME ONE...it is made of tin, right? only my flower is white. I have it in my bathroom.

fun horse rides. We just got 3 of our horses broke this spring, so they are pretty green/frisky. I've got my hands full this fall.

the photo of your grandson (towards the end) leading the horse is just so dang perfect.
belongs in some horse/country magazine.

You asked who designs campers......well my Mom used to work for
Airstream and she did the upholstry work.......hah, I laughed when you wrote that. She had nothing to do with the designs. I would never have chosen the fabrics they used.

It is a big girls Barbie Dream House. I know you work very hard for it too, you deserve every bit of this beauty. I had to laugh with the camper comments. We looked at trailers last year & I found one that was all white inside! even the cabinets! Of course my husband didn't want it so we ended up wih a pop up. Hard to decorate but I do have vintage sheets & cute hampers to store everything. Someday June your going to fnd me on your doorstep with my overnight bag & my art kit. I'll sleep in the bird bath & we'll make art all day.

And what fun you and your sisters must have had...leave it to you to make the camper into a shabby chic gem. The guilt is gorgeous and just perfect there. Love the idea of the drop cloths. Now why didn't I ever think of that??
Your "shack" is indeed a little fairytale house. I'd love to visit.

The shots of your grandkids riding are lovely. The one of Ella is especially cute. (Your name for it reminded me of the name of a dive boat I saw go out last week: Lady Go Diver. Isn't that a cute play on words?)

Excuse me for a moment, June ... I have to catch my breathe! The quilt is AWESOME! You did a marvelous job on this creation, but not a surprise the way you bring beauty to all you touch. And look at that darling 'campsite' & chariot! OMGolly, my friend, you are amazing.

What fun it is to see the wee ones & such beautiful horses & countryside.

Thank you for a wee peek into your 'vacation' & family.

Have a beautiful week ~

Hugs of love,
Marydon

This has to be the cutest most wonderful post anyone has ever done. The cat is laugh out loud funny in all it's kittiness, the campsite with the sofa and the camper is like the best thing i've ever seen, and the cabin is wonderful in every way. I can just feel how cool it was to see all the kids piled in there watching the movie. And Trigger - is a painting waiting to happen... got any face close ups???
